Yakima Neighborhood Health Services Job Title: Nursing Supervisor

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a current Washington State Registered Nurse license. Experience in maternal child health and ambulatory care nursing preferred. Previous work experience at YNHS where applicable skills have been demonstrated may be substituted for other experiences. Skill in customer service. Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Skills in data-entry. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction. Convenient if bilingual in English/Spanish, English/Laotian, English / Cambodian, English/Vietnamese, English/Russian, and/or ability to sign.

 

Supervised by: Public Health Administrator and Primary Care Administrator

 

Position(s) supervises: Public Health Nurses, Clinic Nurses

 

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Requires prolonged walking and standing, frequent bending, stooping or stretching. May involve lifting or positioning patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires full range of body motion including manual nd finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Required to work under stressful conditions and with patients who are often in discomfort and/or pain. May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast-paced environment. Visitation in client homes and satellite programs year-round is common. Local travel using own car is required.

 

Examples of Duties (this list may not all include all the duties assigned):

  • Train and supervise Clinic Nurses and Public Health Nurses, in accordance with organizational, governmental, and other regulatory standards.
  • Manage nursing care essential to the assessment, promotion, maintenance and restoration of patients’ health and wellness.
  • Maintain adequate nurse staffing in departments to accommodate patient needs.
  • Receive patient complaints and compliments. Address issues as needed, and/or direct concerns to appropriate supervisor and/or administrator.
  • Assist with selection and oversee training/orientation, and performance evaluation of nursing personnel.
  • Develop and conduct/coordinate nursing educational programs for staff development.
  • Address personnel issues relating to the nursing staff.
  • Work with other supervisors and administrative staff to address organization-wide issues, including program development, personnel policies, employee evaluations, training needs, safety concerns and quality assurance indicators. Make recommendations and/or decisions for improvement based on the impact to the organization, rather than any single department.
  • Manage the scheduling and orientation of health profession students.
  • Maintain organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
  • Represent YNHS in local meetings as requested.
  • Perform related work or other tasks as requested.

All YNHS employees are expected to develop and maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all other YNHS employees, patients, visitors, health profession students, vendors, and volunteers of the organization. In addition, YNHS employees are expected to provide courteous and efficient service to health and social service agencies working with YNHS patients.
