Yakima Neighborhood Health Services Job Title: Public Health Nurse

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Experience in maternal child health, or willingness to learn. Convenient if bilingual in English/Spanish, English/Laotian, English/Cambodian, English/Vietnamese, and/or ability to sign.

 

Supervised by: Nursing Supervisor

 

Position(s) supervises: None.

 

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Requires prolonged walking and standing, frequent bending, stooping or stretching. May involve lifting or positioning patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Required to work under stressful conditions and with patients who are often in discomfort and/or pain. May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast-paced environment. Visitation in client homes year-round is common. Local travel using own car is required.

 

Examples of Duties (this list may not all include all the duties assigned):

  • Provide holistic nursing assessments, counseling and education to the maternal child health clients of YNHS through clinic and home visits.
  • Participate actively in case conferences with other YNHS team members to address the comprehensive needs of maternal child health clients.
  • Assist in development and implementation of YNHS policies, protocols, standing orders and quality assurance standards as requested.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with healthcare and social service professionals in the community serving YNHS clients.
  • Work cooperatively with student nurses, modeling and directing public health nurse activities.
  • Provide nursing services to special populations when needed (correctional facilities, KidScreen, treatment centers, senior centers, etc.).
  • Work in coordination with other YNHS staff to develop education programs for YNHS clients and staff.
  • Maintain organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
  • Represent YNHS in local meetings as requested.
  • Perform related work as requested.

 

Working Relationships:

All YNHS employees are expected to develop and maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all other YNHS employees, patients, visitors, health profession students, vendors, and volunteers of the organization. In addition, YNHS employees are expected to provide courteous and efficient service to health and social service agencies working with YNHS patients.
