Yakima Neighborhood Health Services Job Title: Pharmacy Technician

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Proof of high school diploma or G.E.D. Declaration stating that he/she has never been found guilty in any court of competent jurisdiction of violating any laws relating to drugs or the practice of pharmacy and at least one years experience. Technician certification by the Washington State Board of Pharmacy. Candidate must also have the ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Convenient if bilingual English/Spanish, English/Laotian, English/Cambodian, English Vietnamese, and or ability to sign.

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

 

Requires prolonged walking and standing, frequent bending, stooping or stretching. May involve lifting or positioning patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Required to work under stressful conditions and with patients who are often in discomfort and/or pain. May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast paced environment.

 

Examples of Duties (this list may not include all the duties assigned):

• Files and retrieves various pharmacy records as required
• Order and maintain medication stock as directed.
• Delivery of medications
• Files completed prescriptions alphabetically on the shelf for patient pick-up.
• Performs charging and crediting processes.
• Reviews patient profile to retrieve specific clerical and other information as directed by the pharmacist.
• Accepts written prescriptions and refill requests from patients where no changes are required.
• Handles non-professional phone calls
• Collects demographic information from patients.
• Performs clinic stock inspections and replaces depleted or outdated stock.
• Operates cash register
• Generates computer reports necessary for appropriate record keeping.
• Entry of new orders into the pharmacy computer system. Under pharmacist supervision.
• Performs tasks under pharmacist supervision such as obtaining individual prepackaged, labeled medications for prescription; obtains stock bottles for prescription filling. Counts and pours from stock bottles for individual prescription. This is to be done under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and accuracy of prescription contents is checked and initialed by the licensed pharmacist.
• Reconstitutes restoration of original form of medication previously altered for preservation and storage by addition of specific quantity of distilled water or provided diluents requiring no calculation. Accuracy is checked and initialed by a licensed pharmacist.
• Maintain organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
• Represent YNHS in local meetings as requested.
• Perform related work and other tasks as requested

All YNHS employees are expected to develop and maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all other YNHS employees, patients, visitors, health profession students, vendors, and volunteers of the organization. In addition, YNHS employees are expected to provide courteous and efficient service to health and social service agencies working with YNHS patients.
