Yakima Neighborhood Health Services Job Title:  Medical Supply Clerk

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

High school diploma or GED.  Previous experience working with medical supplies and inventory required.  Skill in customer service. Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation.  Skills in data-entry.  Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.  Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetical or numeric systems.    Convenient if bilingual in English/Spanish,  English/Laotian, English / Cambodian, English/Vietnamese,  English/Russian, and/or ability to sign.

 

Supervised by:  Medical Supply Manager

 

Position(s) supervises: none.

 

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Requires prolonged walking and standing, frequent bending, stooping or stretching. May involve lifting or positioning patients.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Required to work under stressful conditions and with patients who are often in discomfort and/or pain.  Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast-paced environment.   May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. 

 

Examples of Duties (this list may not all include all the duties assigned):

  • Receive, unpacks, inspects and verifies quality and quantity of medical supplies and medications.
  • Stores and inventories supplies and medications.
  • Follows security procedures for supply room; Restricts access to authorized personnel.
  • Assist medical staff in determining appropriate stock levels of supplies and materials for medical pods and exam rooms and keep supplied adequately.
  • Retrieve medications for licensed independent practitioners as directed and note distribution information on inventory / log.
  • Provide patient instructions as requested by licensed independent practitioner.
  • Assist in development of patient education materials.
  • Serve as clinic liaison for representatives from pharmaceutical companies and medical supply companies.
  • Maintain inventory of prescriptions for uninsured patients participating in Patient Assistance Programs (as directed by physicians).
  • Maintain supply area in a neat and orderly manner including rearranging stock for orderly and timely usage.
  • Monitor medical supplies and medications for recalls and expiration dates.  Dispose expired medications according to clinic policy.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and peer review as requested.
  • Maintain organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
  • Represent YNHS in local meetings as requested.
  • Perform related work or other tasks as requested.
