Yakima Neighborhood Health Services Job Title: Medical Assistant

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. Experience as a medical assistant or certificate of CMA or CNA completion, or willingness to learn. Skill in customer service. Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Skills in data-entry. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetical or numeric systems. Bilingual English/Spanish required. Convenient if bilingual in English/Laotian, English / Cambodian, English/Vietnamese, English/Russian, and/or ability to sign.

 

Supervised by: Medical Assistant Supervisor

 

Position(s) supervises: None.

 

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Requires prolonged walking and standing, frequent bending, stooping or stretching. May involve lifting or positioning patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Required to work under stressful conditions and with patients who are often in discomfort and/or pain. May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast-paced environment.

 

Examples of Duties (this list may not all include all the duties assigned):

ß         Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Take patient histories and vital signs. Document information accurately using appropriate forms and charting format in health care information record.

ß         Perform intake procedures and assist providers with patients as directed by Medical Assistant Supervisor and YNHS providers.

ß         Maintain patient confidentiality.

ß         Assist with patient follow‑up activities, including referrals, recall and other patient needs.

ß         Assist other medical services staff with patient flow as needed and/or directed.

ß         Assist with supply management and appropriate stocking of exam rooms.

ß         Maintain proper sanitation standards, according to YNHS procedure, both with cleaning and sterilization procedures of patient facilities and instruments.

  • Administer procedures as directed by supervisors and in accordance with Washington State Health Care Assistant regulations.
  • Maintain organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
  • Represent YNHS in local meetings as requested.
  • Perform related work and other tasks as requested.

 

Working Relationships:

All YNHS employees are expected to develop and maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all other YNHS employees, patients, visitors, health profession students, vendors, and volunteers of the organization. In addition, YNHS employees are expected to provide courteous and efficient service to health and social service agencies working with YNHS patients.
