Yakima Neighborhood Health Services Job Title: Dental Hygienist

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensed as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the State of Washington. Experience in public health dentistry and/or community health setting preferred. Skill in customer service. Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction. Convenient if bilingual in English/Spanish, English/Laotian, English / Cambodian, English/Vietnamese, English/Russian, and/or ability to sign.

 

Supervised by: Primary Care Administrator and Dental Clinic Manager

 

Position(s) supervises: None.

 

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Requires prolonged walking and standing, frequent bending, stooping or stretching. May involve lifting or positioning patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Required to work under stressful conditions and with patients who are often in discomfort and/or pain.  May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast-paced environment.

 

Examples of Duties (this list may not all include all the duties assigned):

ß         Perform general dental hygienist services, within the scope of a dental hygienist’s license, under the supervision of the YNHS Dentist and/or Dental Director.

  • Prepare equipment and assist dentist(s) during examination and treatment of patients.
  • Monitor infection control techniques.
  • Perform preventive dental services as prescribed by treatment plan.
  • Work with other YNHS public health and primary care staff to provide oral health education and assessment to YNHS medical / public health patients.
  • Assist dentist and receptionists in evaluation of patients in acute pain.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all services rendered in patient chart, and on encounter forms.
  • Assist Dental Services Coordinator to maintain accurate dental recall system.
  • Assure and assist, when directed by supervisor, in sterilization and disinfecting procedures.
  • Observe and report patient reactions to sedatives and anesthetics administered.
  • Assist in inventory and ordering of dental supplies.
  • Maintain organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
  • Represent YNHS in local meetings as requested.
  • Perform related work and other tasks as requested.

All YNHS employees are expected to develop and maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all other YNHS employees, patients, visitors, health profession students, vendors, and volunteers of the organization. In addition, YNHS employees are expected to provide courteous and efficient service to health and social service agencies working with YNHS patients.

 

Salary Range:

Salary: Dependent on education and previous experience as applicable to this position.
