Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED and one year of health and/or social services experience.

Experience with WIC or a willingness to learn about WIC. Skill in customer service. Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Skills in data-entry. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetical or numeric systems. Convenient if bilingual in English/Spanish, English/Laotian, English/Cambodian, English/Vietnamese, and/or ability to sign.

Position(s) supervises: None.

 

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Requires sitting for long periods of time, working at a computer terminal. Some bending and stretching required. Ability to lift papers or boxes up to 30 pounds occasionally. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination required for use of calculators, phones, computer keyboards and other equipment. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast-paced environment. May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

 

Examples of Duties (this list may not all include all the duties assigned):

ß         Enroll pregnant/postpartum women in Maternity Support Services.

ß         Provide basic health education and intervention to pregnant/ postpartum women.

ß         Interviewing applicants to obtain WIC eligibility information, with sensitivity toward clients' needs.

ß         Conduct a client interview which includes a medical history, anthropometric measurements, 24 hour recall, and hematocrit.

ß         Maintaining confidentiality of client interactions and medical records.

ß         Correctly interpreting eligibility information, and documenting this information in chart.

ß         Providing nutrition and health education to clients; educating clients about WIC rules and regulations.

ß         Referring clients as needed; issuing vouchers and scheduling clients; reviewing charts.

ß         Participate in quality assurance activities and peer review as requested.

  • Represent YNHS in local meetings as requested.

ß         Perform related work and other tasks as requested.

All YNHS employees are expected to develop and maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all other YNHS employees, patients, visitors, health profession students, vendors, and volunteers of the organization. In addition, YNHS employees are expected to provide courteous and efficient service to health and social service agencies working with YNHS patients.
