YNHS Position Description: Board Chairman

 

Purpose of Position: To provide leadership to the volunteer Board in determining that the Board meets all moral and legal responsibilities. To serve as chief spokesperson in all agency matters. To promote agency activities aimed at achieving its goals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

 

Policy Administration: Provides leadership in determining or reviewing the purpose and goals of the agency; in determining that measurable organizational objectives, approved by the Board, are established with time limits to their attainment; and in monitoring the progress toward attainment. Ensures that the functions of the agency are conducted in a lawful and ethical manner; ascertains that adequate bonding is provided for such representatives of the agency as determined necessary.

 

Board Leadership: Appoints, subject to ratification by the Board, standing committee chairpersons and such special committees as may be deemed necessary to expedite the goals of the agency; directs the agency Board in the fulfillment of its stated roles; and presides in regular and special meetings of the Board and its Executive committee.

 

Public and Community Relations: Serves as, or designates, an official spokesman to the public in all agency matters; promotes the goals of the agency and interprets these to the community.

 

Supervision: Works with the agency's CEO, assuring that the internal operations of the agency are conducted effectively and with maximum efficiency toward achieving its stated objectives; supervises standing committee chairpersons to assure that their stated functions are being performed.

 

Leadership Development: Promotes the development of selected volunteers to assume future key leadership roles in the agency and assists current agency leadership in identifying key persons in the community who should be recruited to assist the agency.

 

Minimum Job Requirements:

Shall have demonstrated commitment to the agency goals and objectives; shall have supported the agency both in representing the agency in the community and in contributing either financially or of one's time.

 

Shall have demonstrated community leadership which will enhance the agency in the community.

 

Shall have had chief volunteer responsibility in one or more major functions of the agency.
