Health Services Job Title:
Billing Supervisor
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Three years experience in a medical-billing practice. Skill in customer
service. Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Skills in data-entry.
Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand, and
follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials
correctly by alphabetical or numeric systems. Convenient if bilingual in
English/Spanish, English/Laotian, English/Cambodian, English/Vietnamese,
English/Russian, and/or ability to sign.

Typical Physical
Demands and Working Conditions:
Requires sitting for long
periods of time, working at a computer terminal. Some bending and stretching
required. Ability to lift papers or boxes up to 30 pounds occasionally.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Manual dexterity and
eye-hand coordination required for use of calculators, phones, computer
keyboards and other equipment. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a
noisy and fast-paced environment.
Examples of Duties
(this list may not include all the duties assigned):
- Train
and supervise Account Representatives.
- Maintain
adequate staffing in department to accommodate timely data entry of
patient charges and payments.
- Monitor
billing processes. Adjust staffing patterns and activities as needed.
- Review
coding practices of YNHS health care providers.
- Serve
as primary problem-solver for patient accounts, collection activities, and
communication with Office Manager and Dental Services Coordinator
regarding patients with overdue accounts and/or patients turned to
collection.
- Oversee
and assure timely submission of claims to insurance companies, including
Medicaid and Medicare.
- Oversee
and assure appropriate discounts are provided to uninsured patients
according to sliding fee scale.
- Receive
patient complaints and compliments. Address issues as needed, and/or
direct concerns to appropriate supervisor and/or administrator.
- Assist
with development of departmental policies and procedures
- Perform
departmental quality assurance reviews.
- Perform
and maintain credentialing of YNHS licensed health care providers.
- Identify
new insurers available to YNHS and review participating provider
agreements. Make recommendations to Primary Care Administrator for YNHS
participation.
- Assist
uninsured patients in obtaining health coverage by identifying potential
sources of coverage and assist in completing applications.
- Perform
billing activities, including updating patient accounts, calculating
charges and collecting fees.
- Work
closely with Controller to manage Accounts Receivable.
- Work
with other supervisors and administrative staff to address
organization-wide issues, including program development, personnel
policies, employee evaluations, training needs, safety concerns and
quality assurance indicators. Make recommendations and/or decisions for
improvement based on the impact to the organization, rather than any
single department.
- Represent
YNHS in local meetings as requested.
- Maintain
organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
- Perform
related work and other tasks as requested.
Working Relationships:
All YNHS employees are
expected to develop and maintain professional and courteous working
relationships with all other YNHS employees, patients, visitors, health
profession students, vendors, and volunteers of the organization. In addition,
YNHS employees are expected to provide courteous and efficient service to
health and social service agencies working with YNHS patients.
